One of the guiding principals of "Alignment Yoga" is "Win-win alignment" or we don't steal from one part of the body to do the pose in another part of the body. Instead we allow for the best alignment within the body's natural alignment. For the hips, this means that when we have an "Open Hip" Pose like Warrior II, we allow the pelvis to rest in its natural position without forcing it to line up with the long edge of the mat. This is much kinder to the SI joint--therefore "win-win alignment". We will go through the standing poses and feel them in our bodies as to whither they are Neutral Hips vs Split Hip poses.
