Life is short. You hear people say that all the time but have you really stopped to let that sink in? Time. Is. Short! We are given but one life. We only live this day today once and yesterday can never be relived except in our memories. Not all of us are given the opportunity to live into old age. As a NICU nurse I learned that lesson all too often. Some parents only have the opportunity to love their precious babies for a few hours, a few days, a few weeks or a few months. We have all experienced loss as our loved ones move out of this life and into whatever is beyond. To celebrate birth we have to also accept the inevitability of death. What you do between those two events is up to you. Seize the moment! Carpe Diem! Love your baby! Cherish your child! Take that trip! Get down on the floor and play with your toddler or your grandchild! Step out of your comfort zone and try the activity that scares you or intrigues you. Be silly! Dress up as a Samurai! Truly live fully, Belly Laugh out loud, Love intensely, Dance like no ones watching, Sing your favorite song out loud with the radio cranked up on high, Take Chances, Follow the path of Serendipity.
Joseph Campbell gave this wise advise to a young Native American upon his initiation: “As you go the way of life, You will see a great chasm. Jump. It is not as wide as you think.”
Life and death are of supreme importance.
Time passes swiftly and opportunity is lost.
Let us awaken.
Awaken!
(Do not squander your life.)
