We used to think that doing sit-ups in gym would build our core. Not so much! That only targets the superficial abdominal muscle (Rectus Amdominis--the famous "6-Pack"). The core muscles include deeper levels, the Abdominal Obliques and the Transverse Abdominus. In the back it includes the Quadratus Lumborum (lower back muscle). These are all connected to the Latissimus Dorsi in the back, the Anterior Serratus, Rhomboids, Spinal Erectors and the Gluteal Complex. Deeper in the Abdomen is the Psoas, Illiacus and the small muscles that go up and down the spine. As we know, we are connected from head to toe!
