Hamstrings are the group of muscles that run from both sides of your knee up to your sits-bones and work opposite to the quadriceps on the front of your thigh. They work to flex the knee and extend the hips. If you pull on your heels back--what do you feel? The ripple effect moves up the kinetic chain all the way to your lower abdomen and can help you raise up from a forward fold assisting the lower back of its overload. If we sits most of our waking lives, our hamstrings can get tight or even 'off-line'. We often tend to over-stretch this group of muscles rather than working them to become more pliable and more active.
