Let's circle around again to ACTION and RESISTANCE--one of the hallmarks of Alignment Yoga. When you lift weights you are adding resistance to lift against. When you do push-ups you are using the weight of your body to provide the weight/resistence against which you push away from the floor. In Action & Resistance in yoga you use the power of your mind to instruct the opposing muscles to provide the resistance to the movement you want to make. Action & Resistance flexes the muscles of the brain and the body; makes you more present in your body as you have to intently think about it; stabilizes the joint around which you are practicing this technique, builds strength in both sets of muscles and is a useful technique to get deeper into your yoga practice. We'll explore this technique when you come to your mat this week.
