Despite the lack of the leisurely 3 days we had planned for Big Bend National Park, we managed to see all of the high points and certainly got plenty of pictures. We stopped at all of the vistas that had turnouts and took pictures but mostly we just enjoyed “being in the moment” and feasting our eyes on the views as the camera just does not pick up the subtleties, particularly with the gray overcast skies that we are blessed with today. I was so lucky to get those 5 minutes of sun to take the pictures of the Canyon!
After filling up gas again (gas stations are very far and few between so we fill up every chance we get) we headed north to Davis Mountain State Park. Fort Davis is known for their “dark skies” but the moon is just a few days past full and was bright enough last night for me to walk without a flashlight. Plus tonight we have low clouds and a fierce wind blowing through our campsite. We will not see the Milky Way tonight. And the wifi is pathetic. Our phones have only SOS capability so, entertainment will also be sparse.
We got to the camp site early enough to have the time for both of us to get showers. Getting our dark and gray water emptied was also a high priority as both tanks are full. The key doesn’t work on the water intake port so we no long have water in the camper. It’s always something!!! Luckily I brought along a 10 gallon water container and filled it before we left New Orleans so we have water, just not easily available. Slight difficulty. Nothing compared to the brake fiasco.
