SPRING! New Beginnings. Spring flowers peeking through the thawing ground, trees budding, the ice and snow melting away to warmer days and sunshine. The emotions that washed over me this week was Joy and Gratitude. I am so grateful for the increasing length and strength of the sunlight. I am so grateful for the coming of Spring. I am also learning to be grateful for the little things in life. Many years ago, when a dear friend was in the dark days of chemo for breast cancer, she stated "I am thankful to just find a pair of socks that match in the morning." I have thought of that many times over the years...and I am forever grateful that I have a pair of socks that match to put on in the morning. But I am also grateful for my children and my mother...my gratitude washed over me this week when we all met for lunch for Maharani Buffet Indian. I realize that it is the first time that our "core family" group was there together--still standing--grateful to be together and grateful for the life of those missing around the table--my dad who died a year ago after a long and grateful life and my daughter who died too young and never realized all that she could have been grateful for. Joy comes with gratitude. I find such joy is the coming of the spring...I watch each bulb bloom, each flower opening, each bud turning to leaf, each landscape transforming into the soft gentle green haze in the distance. Last week, I was overcome with gratitude and joy when my senior yoga group unexpectedly blossomed in numbers. Research has shown that mindfulness meditation with gratitude and joy can actually change the shape of your brain--just 20 minutes a day for 4 weeks! I am so grateful for the practice of yoga and mindfulness meditation. It brings me so much joy to share yoga with the students in my classes. Gratefulness and Joy! Celebrate the coming of Spring with Gratefulness and Joy! Come practice a gentle, mindfulness flow with us during any of my classes. I am also very grateful for Spring Break Vacations! Tree Pose in Oahu, Hawaii 2015 :-)
