Psoas major connects the spine to the legs. Illicus connects the pelvis to the legs
The psoas has multiple points of attachment creating different vectors of force that work to either stabilize the spine, pelvis and legs or move the spine, pelvis and legs.
The primary function of the psoas is the stabilize the spine
An unbalanced psoas can pull the pelvis off-center and distort the neutral spine curvatures
When the psoas co-contracts with the other core muscles the action of the axial compression stabilizes the spine
A long and strong psoas muscles supports ease in spinal and hip movement.
Psoas can cause a ‘forced closure of the SI joint”
Many ligaments to provide stability to SI joint
A balanced psoas can help to release a restricted SI joint
Overstretching the SI ligaments can cause SI instability
Strengthening regional core muscles can help stabilize the SI joint.
