On the way to a 'lost classmates' house, Karyn Blumhagen, I passed the Petroglyph National Monument and decided to make a quick stop. | Petroglyph National Monument |
Note to self! Be aware of making camping reservations from "how it looks on the internet". HA! The "Gateway to the Petrified Forest RV park" looked great on the website....I made reservations and paid at a rest stop but when I got there it was a water logged gravel/mud parking lot with NO FACILITIES!!! The guy had set up an RV as the 'bathroom' and the 'shower'. The laundry was still being built...It was sunset, I was tired so I hooked up and Maddie and I settled into the camper for the night. No internet and no wifi so no update to anyone. It rained all night but quit by the morning. The Petrified Forest and Painted Desert don't open until 8 am. There were 5 or 6 cars/campers in the parking lot waiting to get in. it was cold and very windy out on the wide open landscape. The clouds were so bright that the colorful painted forested doesn't show up I had 300 miles to go still to get to Santa Fe. The changing landscape fascinates me as high desert changes to rolling hills to caves to cliffs to wide reaching valleys and plateaus. The drive up to Santa Fe was pretty and fairly quick--a little over an hour. I drove to Georgi's place, unhooked the trailer and drove into town to meet Georgi and Naomi for Dosa and Paper
