March 8th. I was up early as usual and did my exercises, packed up the car, visited with Christine as she got ready to leave for LA, had breakfast with Mark. He leaves for Hollywood on Saturday to be a camera man for the Oscars Sunday night. I backtracked east to the southern entrance for Joshua Tree and drove slowly to my campsite at Ryan Campground--about 2/3 of the way through the park. I stopped frequently to just take it in, short hikes with Maddie. She is not allowed on the trails so we had to stay on the cement. I got to my campsite before sunset and set up camp, took Maddie for a walk, ate some dinner and hunkered down for the night. The desert nights are cold. Luckily I have a furnace which I set to run if it got below 50 and it ran much of the night. The young woman next door was loudly complaining how cold she was. There was frost on the windshield. I leisurely drank my tea, walked Maddie to do her business and packed up. Most of the campers were already gone by the time I pulled out at 8 am! We took our time driving slowly through the lovely landscape, getting to the town of Joshua Tree to get the gas which was on empty! N0w on to Irvine and Shalini!
