Age-related muscle loss, called sarcopenia, is a natural part of aging. After age 30, you begin to lose as much as 3% to 5% per decade! For a 70 year old that could be 20% of your muscles...POOF! Many of us came to yoga to "gain more flexibility" but what we really need is to maintain our strength and muscle mass along with that flexibility. We will continue to find ways to add strength building options to our yoga poses. We all have to start somewhere--we are all at different levels. What is important is that we start and keep it up until it becomes a habit.
