Arizona has had some rain recently so the drive was lovely with green bushes flowering with bursts of yellow along the highway and ragged mountains lining the sides in the distance. It was nicer than the last time I drove from Phoenix to Tucson to present my research on breastfeeding premature babies in the NICU many years ago. I remember it being dry, dutsy and kinda boring. This time I had a different adventure! An hour into the drive I smelled something awful and I just knew that Maddie had had an accident—I pulled off at the next exit and there was nothing there—just flat abandoned landscape—I turned off onto a gravel shoulder and sure enough! Poop all over the map and the trip diary! Luckily I have supplies as this is not the first time. I will at some point do a Maddie Post…
Oreen Long Eddy was already seated at the restaurant and ready to dig into her plate of Indian food. We were talking and eating when a tall woman came up to us, asking, “Woodstock?” Yes! it was Rebecca Price! I had texted her and introduced myself to her and invited her to join us and she came!!! What fun! Finding lost classmates and making connections as well as reconnecting with classmates is one of my goals for the 'camper travels.' Becky Price is also a nurse (as are Oreen and myself) She is married, has 2 children and one grandchild. She wanted all of the updates on the classmates that she remembered…immediately Mary got on the phone and started texting classmates “do you remember Beckie Price? She is here and asking about you!” Janine, Joy, Chuttum and Nuddy, Becky Kose, Danny, Noel, Bruce, etc. She was at Woodstock only for one year in 1963 so Oreen and I had never met her as I was with my family on furlough that year. I promised her that a I would get her connected to the class list and take her back to India if I go again…which is inevitable, I suppose. :-)
Oreen in still recovering from Knee surgery as she fell on a fairly new knee replacement and needed surgical repair for it. She is also busy taking care of home, husband and grandchildren. She loves Arizona!
Mary Nave Davis is retired around a year and still deciding what to do with her time. She has joined Tim in studying essential oils but it's not her 'thang'; now she is helping Tim study for being a life coach. She takes yoga (Margaret, Mary and I spent our Senior Week down in Rishikesh and that was the first time that we had explored practicing yoga!). Her son Michael is back home until he can get on his feet. Their home is sometimes a revolving door with visitors. After eating we went out to the camper for a group pic and to let Maddie out.
Mark kept tract of my progress and they both gave me detailed instructions on how to get to the house-the sun was setting my last hour and it was dark by the time I arrived. We unpacked the cold food and sat down to eat a delicious fresh salad with grilled chicken breast. We talked til late and fell into bed. It never even occured to me to take pictures as we ate and talked. I'll be better tomorrow...
